WORST WEEK EVER - MACRoCK
Worst Week Ever is proud to present our first MACROCK issue. See, we sent out a questionnaire to all 62 of the bands and…
"The Story Behind the Bayhouse"
So, a few months back we decided Bayhouse would be the single from our new album and that we wanted a music video for it. At first I pushed for the band to find a third-party to produce the video. Even though filmmaking is “my thing” I was stretched thin with all my other band duties:
- Designing the album art/packaging
- Producing a whole new line of merch (including our first t-shirts, new stickers, posters, and more)
- Building/crafting our new "wine crate" merch table display for the new merch
- Building a whole new website for the band based around the album art. This was another task I wanted to outsource but ended up doing to save precious monies. For the record, just because I have my own blog doesn’t mean I know how to build a website from the ground up. I don’t. I had to learn CSS coding. Screw CSS
- Starting our fancy-shmancey email newsletter (shameless plug: sign up here!)
- Producing the album itself with the rest of the band. I think I’ve memorized every road sign from DC to Richmond during the weekly recording/mixing sessions.
- Playing shows (duh)
- Applying for grad schools. Granted, this was only a problem during the winter, but it still counts.
So… I wasn’t too keen on adding a music video to that list. And yet, here we are. Russell, our pianist, had asked one of his good friends to act in the video as the character we dubbed “indie girl #1,” so we spent the whole day filming downtown, by the water, at the train station, down alleys, and anywhere else we deemed “indie enough”. The band segments we filmed at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg (our original stomping ground!). I directed and shot the video and, really, I can’t complain about any of it! Yes, I’ll still notice things in it, but the final edit is something I’m happy sharing with the world. I’m really proud of the footage we got and the energy the whole video carries.
The whole video was shot on a Rebel T2i, standard Canon lens with some filters and close-up lenses for a few shots. Editing and color correction were done in Premiere Pro CS5.
I’m truly excited about everything we’ve got going. The album looks and sounds great, the new merch is awesome, the website is up and running smoothly, and the music video is… more than anything else… DONE. WOOHOO! It’s finally time to move on to other film projects. On a side note, I never thought I’d see people coming to shows wearing our band shirts and singing along to every word. If you’re one of those people and reading this, you’re awesome, and it means to world to us!
PS — Also, shout-out to RPresor for helping with everything except recording the actual album. That includes the awesome watercolor artwork and merch table design!

I decided to make custom R/B sprites for the current Twitch Plays Pokemon team! They’re transparent! Feel free to use them anywhere you like, you don’t have to credit, but it’d be really nice if you did. :>
aaabaaajss (Bird Jesus): Obviously looking holy, the laurels in beak represent victory.
AATTVVV (All-Terrain-Venomoth): Self-explanatory.
AAAAAAAAAA (King Fonz): AAAAAAAAAAyy
OMANYTE (LORD HELIX): The appointed god of TPP, risen from the Lord Helix. It’s facing away from the viewer because it is guiding Red.
AIIIIIIRRR (Air Jordan): Ready to SURF some waves and shoot some hoops.
AA-j (Double-A Jay): Also known as “Archangel of Justice.” It’s the battery bird, who’s had both positive and negative effects on Red’s adventure.
